OUR VISION
Leadership Shelby is a program designed to aid Shelby County residents in acquiring and improving existing leadership skills. While bringing people together with diverse backgrounds and experiences, Leadership Shelby provides a forum for learning and discovery through a hands-on analysis of community resources throughout Shelby County.
OUR BRAND
The green in our logo exhibits the pride in our rich agricultural heritage and also represents growth, vitality and fresh perspectives. The blue reminds us to continue to reach for the sky and represents trust, wisdom and confidence. These qualities are essential to effective leadership. The intersecting triangle symbolizes the firm foundation built upon integrity, personal responsibility and teamwork necessary for success.
OUR HISTORY
In 1993, the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce asked a select, diverse group of citizens to develop a leadership program modeled around Leadership Kentucky and other successful leadership programs in the Commonwealth. The program was carefully planned with an emphasis on identifying present and potential future community leaders, then helping them develop the skills necessary to lead our community forward. In time Leadership Shelby began operating as an independent 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization. The program has been highly successful with over 450 graduates and continues to grow in scope and impact. This distinctive program begins in August with an overnight Opening Retreat and ends in May with a one-day Closing retreat. Class participants develop leadership skills through customized training, interaction with community officials and private sector leaders, problem solving sessions and eight monthly educational tours consisting of Agriculture, Industry, Government, Education, Health & Social Services, Law & Justice, Media & Tourism and Arts & History. Leadership Shelby has recently been accredited by the national organization – Association for Leadership Programs.
